Nearly 180 students from the district’s four middle schools came together on Jan. 10 for a day of shared music and performance. The students spent the day together at Park Center Senior High, where they practiced and got to know one another before a 3 p.m. performance to culminate the experience.
The district’s band teachers selected students for this opportunity based on their dedication and skill.
“It’s a chance for us to highlight our students who are excelling in their band classes, showing great resolve and getting better,” said Maple Grove Middle School band director, Stephen Boulka. “It’s a chance for them to meet each other and work together with other kids from across the district.”
The honor band spent time working with the Champlin Park High School’s band director to give the young musicians an opportunity for a fresh voice and perspective than their typical band teacher.
